Royal seal of approval for Student Club

Saudi students at the University of Wolverhampton are welcoming royalty this weekend to mark the opening of a new cultural association.

Students from the Middle Eastern country in Wolverhampton and Walsall have established the Saudi Students Club, which is recognised and funded by the Saudi Cultural Attaché in London.

The club serves the needs of students in the area. On Sunday, Prince Bader lbn Saud, of the Saudi Royal Family and is responsible for students in the UK, will help officially open the club.

Around 200 people, made up of Saudi students and their families and dignitaries, will attend the event at the University’s City Campus.

Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Geoff Layer, said: “It is a great honour for the University to be welcoming the Prince and guests from the Saudi community.

“International students are vital to the University of Wolverhampton. They not only bring benefits to the local economy as far as spending in concerned but they also bring cultural investment to the city and Black Country.

“Going to university is about learning but also about the social and cultural side and we work closely with the Students’ Union, which helps provide a vibrant mix of activities, clubs and societies.”

Sami Alsokeh, is studying for an MBA at the University and is President of the Saudi Club. He said: “The visit is extremely important to all the Saudi students in the Wolverhampton and Walsall and it will be a proud day for us.

“As well as marking the opening we will be able to talk to the Prince about studying in the UK and how we are finding it.”

There are around 200 Saudi students currently studying at the University of Wolverhampton.
