Haiti visitors pick up tips on working with industry

31/07/2012

A team of education experts from Haiti have visited the University of Wolverhampton to examine ways of working with regional businesses.

Wolverhampton was chosen for the visit as a university with successful links between staff and industry.

During the visit to the Telford Campus, the three guests heard how academics are involved in providing advice to businesses, the range of graduate employment schemes available and also how the University works to help small business become established.

They also toured the e-Innovation Centre at Telford which provides incubation space for new businesses.

The visitors all work in business and universities in Haiti and are part of the European Union funded BRIDGE Project’s industry and entrepreneur team. The BRIDGE (Bridging Research and Industry Developing Growth and Entrepreneurship) Programme was funded to create a long term sustainable approach to innovation and entrepreneurship support in Haiti and Dominican Republic.

Philip Dearden, Head of the Centre for International Development and Training (CIDT) which hosted the visit, said: “We were delighted to welcome the group and demonstrate the expertise and experience of the University in establishing and developing a wide variety of industry and academic links.

“The Centre for International Development and Training was selected to host the visit because of our good understanding of the development needs in Haiti.”

CIDT staff members Ellie Curtain and Richard Nyrendra also presented the visitors with details of a project that links the University with the Copper-Belt University in Zambia.
