Commissioning under scrutiny

Health and social care professionals from across the region gathered at the University of Wolverhampton to take part in a Masterclass on commissioning.

The University’s hosted The Commissioning for Quality, Caring for People event at the Wolverhampton Science Park on Friday 29 June 2012.

The event focused on the future of health and social care commissioning in England and Wales and the keynote address was given by Mark Britnell, chairman and partner of Global Health Practice KPMG LLP.

Other keynote speakers include Dr Glenn Mason, Director of People, Communities and Local Government with the Department of Health and Professor Jon Glasby, Director of the Health Services Management Centre at the University of Birmingham.

The event also saw the launch of the University’s new MSc course in Commissioning for Health and Social Care.

Professor Linda Lang, Dean of the School of Health and Wellbeing, said: “Commissioning is the key to achieve the best possible quality outcomes for health and social care service users and their carers.

“The event brought some key people from across the sector to Wolverhampton and it was very enlightening.

“It also gave us the opportunity to launch our new course. The aim of this is to support colleagues in current and new commissioning roles to develop the science and art of commissioning, as it applies to the people and populations they serve.”

The MSc starts in October.
