New court opens at Uni

The School of Legal Studies has created the new facility in the Law School on City campus to enable future solicitors and barristers to benefit from a genuine court experience.Court room
 
The realistic courtroom includes a judges’ bench, witness box and accommodation for the clerk of the court and counsel. Seating is also available in the room for observers. The court room features purpose-built legal equipment, in addition to a projector and specialist acoustics, and will be used by both undergraduate and postgraduate students from this semester.
 
It is hoped the new courtroom will help to continue the success of the University ‘mooting’ teams, where students take part in a mock trial. In the last academic year, University of Wolverhampton students reached the semi-finals of the National ICLR Mooting Competition and won a Jessup Mooting Award.
 
The courtroom will also be used for the School of Legal Studies internal student mooting and debating competitions which are organised annually by the Student Law Society.
 
Dean of the School of Legal Studies, Brian Mitchell, said: “We are confident that the new court room will help our students build on the great success achieved by our mooters in the last academic year.
 
“This will be invaluable for all our students, especially those who intend to qualify as Barristers or Solicitors.”
