PR Gurus win top awards

01/05/2008
The BA (Hons) Public Relations students fought off tough competition to win two of the four categories of The Pitch 2008 – a new Student Award from the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR).

The final year students, Felix Wündsch and Tinu Adelegan, faced a Dragons’ Den style judging panel to pitch for business in order to win summer internships at prestigious national PR agencies.

Felix won in the consumer category while Tinu was named the winner in the crisis category.

Public Relations subject leader Sarah Williams, from the School of Humanities, Languages and Social Sciences, said: “We had four students in the final and our students won in two of the categories. So from 19 universities with CIPR approved undergraduate Public Relations courses, Wolverhampton had the highest number of finalists and our students walked away winners in two of the main categories.”

Colin Farrington, CIPR Director General, added: “The Pitch winners are to be congratulated. They have all clearly demonstrated an ability to apply what they have learnt in their PR studies to a live exercise and under pressure – something which will put them in good stead when they embark on their careers.”

Students were asked to pick a communications campaign brief from one of four PR sectors – Consumer, Technology, Crisis and Charity – and submit a written summary answering their chosen brief. The selected finalists then pitched their ideas to a judging panel of CIPR representatives and directors of PR organisations at the CIPR headquarters in London.
