Digitisation Service (for Staff only)

Do you want to add scanned extracts or journal articles from published material to your teaching resources and make them accessible via your Canvas courses?

If so, you need to use the Digitisation Service which is managed by library staff under the Copyright Licensing Agency (CLA) Higher Education Licence.

The CLA licence allows limited scanned extracts to be made from a printed book, journal or magazine owned by the University. Each scan can be viewed and downloaded by students registered on the relevant module.

Requests for scanned extracts usually take about a week to complete (usually within a few days.)

(Please be aware that some items are excluded from the CLA licence and may require longer for LIS to obtain a copyright fee paid copy or direct permission from the copyright holder.)

Extent Limits

The limits as to how much can be included in a scan (per module) are as follows:

1 chapter, article, scene from a play, conference paper, case, story, poem or play from an anthology OR 10% (of the whole publication). Whichever is greater!

To use the Digitisation Service, please select either Book chapter or Journal article, then complete and submit the Request Form.

Once the extract has been digitised, you will be emailed a link and instructions on how to add it to the relevant Canvas course. It will then be accessible to all students who are registered to that module.

Further information may be found on the Copyright section of the library webpages.
