Your Responsibilities as an International Student
Before you start Your Course
The University of Wolverhampton has a duty to verify your documents and assess your eligibility before sponsoring your Student Route Visa. This process takes place throughout Admissions.
As an international student, you must:
- Research the visa application process and understand all requirements.
- Meet the visa requirements (including finances, qualifications and credibility)
- Attend your visa interview and be prepared to answer questions about your course and study plans.
- Request your CAS number and apply for a visa in advance to avoid delays.
- Read the University’s refund and visa refusal policies to understand the implications.
- Inform the University of your visa decision as soon as you receive it.

How to Apply
UKVI Visa Guidance
CAS Request Deadline & Priority Visa Services
- The CAS request deadline is set by Admissions—submit your request on time!
- If you apply too late, you may have to defer your application to the next available intake.
- Some countries offer a priority visa service (faster processing for an extra fee). Check UKVI processing times.
Warning: If you apply too late and miss your course start date, your visa may be refused, and you may not be eligible for a deposit refund or reapplication.
Refund & Visa Refusal Policies
International students must pay a deposit, which is refundable, except in cases where:
Fraudulent documents/statements are submitted.
A student receives a visa, arrives in the UK, but fails to enrol.
Visa refusals are reviewed case by case by the Student Visa Compliance and Advice team. A second CAS statement is not always granted.
Refunds follow the Fee Liability, Refunds & Debtor Policy.
Visa Application Result
Once you receive your visa, check it carefully:
It should state Student Visa (not ‘Student Visitor’ or other categories).
If you spot an error, contact the Student Visa Compliance and Advice team on visa-enquiries@wlv.ac.uk immediately.
Inform the University of your visa outcome as soon as possible! If your visa is refused, provide a full copy of the refusal letter to RTS@wlv.ac.uk, so we review your options.
