On Programme Key Features

On Programme Key Features

Once you are ‘on programme’, you will follow your programme timetable of learning. You can access your assignments and grades using CANVAS, the University Virtual Learning Environment.

To progress you must have passed the relevant modules and achieved sufficient credits for your year of study in line with the Academic Regulations and Course Specification. You must also be on track with your off-the-job logging and English and Mathematics (where relevant).

  • Off-the-job

On your degree apprenticeship, you'll spend a minimum of 6 hours of your working week studying for your degree apprenticeship. This is called off-the-job training. Once you've achieved your off-the-job training and completed all your modules, you'll progress to Gateway, the end-point assessment and then to graduation.

Off-the-job training mainly takes place at the University, where you'll attend lectures and practical sessions to develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours to achieve your apprenticeship.

Off-the-job can only take place during your normal working hours (the time you're paid to work). Both your employer and the University are equally responsible for making sure that you take part in off-the-job training during your degree apprenticeship.

For information on what counts as off-the-job training and how to evidence it please see our FAQs.

  • Tri-partite Reviews

These meetings are an integral and mandatory part of your Apprenticeship Programme and will be carried out regularly between you, your employer and your Skills Coach (allocated to you at the start of your programme).

This will happen approximately every 10-12 weeks or four times per year.

The aim of the meetings is to review your progress and allow you the opportunity to raise any issues or concerns you may have.

These reviews can be face-to-face or remote via Microsoft Teams.

For any questions regarding your Tripartite Progress Review, contact your designated Skills Coach.

  • Attendance

Your attendance on the programme is very important. You'll be required to attend all lessons, as your success is closely related to your attendance. We strongly recommend you take all annual leave outside of your timetabled lessons at university.

The training plan is evidence of your commitment to completing your degree apprenticeship, so your attendance and contribution to the degree are essential.

  • Gateway and End Point Assessment (EPA)

To complete your Apprenticeship, you must meet your apprenticeship Gateway requirements and complete the End Point Assessment (EPA).

Your end-point assessment takes place at the end of your degree apprenticeship. It's designed to test whether you've gained the knowledge, skills and behaviours set out in the apprenticeship standards. The EPA differs slightly, depending on the course you're on. You must pass the EPA to graduate from your apprenticeship.

You can find your Apprenticeship standard and Assessment Plan (with Gateway and EPA requirements) on the IfATE website

Please note apprentices, who do not hold Functional Skills Level 2 in English and Maths but are required to complete as part of their programme, must have completed their Functional Skills by the time they reach Gateway.

Celebrating your success - Graduation

On successful completion of your Apprenticeship Programme, you will be awarded your certificate and have the opportunity to attend your graduation day to celebrate what you have achieved.
