The Students' Union has invested time in developing a Regeneration Project that will revitalise the student experience at City Campus. The goal is to create a vibrant, safe and engaging student focused space that promotes a sense of community and belonging for all students and staff from across campuses at the the University.

The Students' Union (SU) bar last closed its doors 15 years ago. On Monday 25 September, a refreshed venue opens which has been designed by students for both students and staff from the University.

Luna Lounge includes a space for live music as well as a deli and juice bar, named Deli Moon, with discounted drinks and food, and a new space to socialise, known as The Den. Provided by the University's SU, and backed by the University, the project has created around 25 new jobs, mostly for students.

The University's Interim Vice Chancellor, Professor John Raftery, said: “We are really pleased to be working with the Students’ Union on this exciting new initiative which will further improve our social facilities at our City Campus."

A 3-year business plan has been produced and partnerships have been formed with local business partners – Sassy Coffee (owned by a former graduate of the University) and Carlsberg Marston’s (Marston’s were founded in Wolverhampton and there continues to be a long association with the city).

Nirmla Devi, CEO of the SU, says: "We have undertaken extensive student engagement, and market research has been conducted involving over 1,800 students from an in-person survey, an independent survey, focus groups and local market research. These identified students want the SU to establish a safe space that provides affordable alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks and food, a diverse social offering which cultivates a sense of community and belonging by allowing students to have a social life and enjoyable student experiences. The SU has reflected on feedback to create a separate non-alcoholic space (deli moon) so that it is inclusive. Students also want to have more work experience and this project has created 25 new student jobs and 20 students have been employed in the last week."

More information about the SU project can be found on their website.

The Luna Lounge and Deli Moon will officially open at mid-day on Monday 25 September as part of the City Welcome Events Day.
