Being Human Festival 2024

Places are still available for the final event led by the University of Wolverhampton, as part of the Being Human Festival.

Being Human Festival, the UK’s national festival of the humanities, continues this week with events across the UK until 16 November 2024.

Led by the School of Advanced Study, University of London, with generous support from Research England, in partnership with the Arts and Humanities Research Council and the British Academy.

The theme this year is 'Myth, Magic and Markings' and our events explore rites of passage, death, mourning, remembrance and renewal. There are workshops in glass and ceramics, fashion and textiles, illustration, an evening of storytelling and a public lecture entitled 'Care for the Dead'.

Event: Being Human Festival, Myth, Ritual & Mark Making: Illustration Workshop

Explore mark making in this historically themed illustration and printmaking workshop.

Mark marking recording and interpretating is intrinsic to being human. With our academic staff, you will explore mark making with imagery from iconic landmarks, mythical symbolism and deities from Dr William Pawlett's research. You will create patterns, marks, layering and otherworldly compositions to make your own mythic narratives and artistic 'take' on mythical landmarks.

Dr Willliam Pawlett is Senior Lecturer and Course Leader in the Dept of Media, Film and Broadcasting at the University of Wolverhampton.
