Year ten students visit University

The International Academy at the University of Wolverhampton has been delivering a ‘Moto in the World’ project to a group of local students focusing on the different career options around the sport of motor racing.

Three cohorts of local Year 10 students are undertaking the residential and Saturday club programme at the Telford Innovation Campus looking at a variety of potential options relating to the industry.

These include tourism, marketing, graphic design, sports psychology, languages, bridge design & building, team working, applied maths and, last but by no means least, the race car itself!

During the programme the students are able to experience what it is like to live on the University campus, visit City and Walsall campuses and the Science Park, and register as a student to be able to enjoy some of the student facilities.

They can also explore different topics and ways of working, in particular to develop their presentation, research and team-working skills.

The programme has been funded through the Aspire to HE partnership and has included a mix of residential and Saturday clubs with each group attending a residential programme (four nights) at Telford Campus and five Saturday clubs, each lasting three hours. The purpose of the Saturday clubs in part, is to visit each of the different University campuses at Walsall (Sports Psychology), Wolverhampton City (Graphic design) and the Science Park (driving simulator) to add to the overall experience of the University.

The first two visits took place in February and April and have seen a total of 38 young people attending with a further 22 due to enjoy the next planned residential, starting on Tuesday (May 29th).

The Moto in the World project has been led by Rachel Henley, Business Development and Project Manager at the International Academy on the Telford campus.
