Craig McDermott University of Wolverhampton Security Services Security Officer 500 x 250

Meet Craig McDermott who has been a member of the University of Wolverhampton Security Team for around 8 years. Craig tells his story and his top security tips in his own words below.

I am originally from Warrington but have moved around a lot since leaving my hometown at 16 to join the Army. Prior to settling in Wolverhampton, I lived in London for a good few years, working in the Security Industry mainly focusing on the event, hotel and corporate sectors and managing small and large-scale teams.

I wanted to work within the University as I was looking for a workplace which could offer me the opportunity to grow and further my career. Working within the University Security Team has been and continues to be a fantastic experience, no two days are the same giving us new challenges to face each day, I enjoy the variety that working here brings as well as the diverse University community.

Outside of work I enjoy all things outdoorsy such as carp fishing, camping, and walking the dogs. I am also a keen sports fan with an interest in football, boxing, and rugby league. Music is another passion of mine and I try and get to gigs when possible. My greatest pleasure in life is spending time with my wife.

The Security Team here at the University offer fantastic support for all of the University community, we are here to help and support every hour of the day, every day of the year. Please have a look at the University’s security web pages for all our security and safety advice and ways you can contact the team.

I would also like to mention Safezone which is a fantastic safety/safeguarding app which keeps you in touch with Security whilst you are on campus at the University.
