This module builds on your knowledge, skills and understanding that you have gained through prior experiences to support you development as a teacher. This year – long module will enable you to enhance your skills as a critical, reflective practitioner in readiness for your NQT (Newly Qualified Teacher) year. This will require you to: engage with theories of teaching and learning across the themes of national policies and strategies in education, subject pedagogy, assessment within the framework of national target setting and the use of data, behaviour management and assessment for learning in the classroom; critically relate these theories to your strengths and areas for development as practitioner in the context of classroom and in the wider professional context(s). You will be required to demonstrate a deep knowledge and understanding of your practice; demonstrate, articulate, evaluate and critically reflect on your needs to enable you to continue to develop your professional identity as a teacher. Although a significant proportion of the training associated with this module can be delivered through university-based sessions, the major part will take place in the school-based environments, supported by school-based tutors and professional tutors. The taught sessions will be delivered through mixed subject groups beginning wqith a two day school experience.
This module is specifically designed to ensure that those who are successful can be recommended to the relevant professional body for the award of Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) - the professional award required by all those who wish to teach in a maintained school. This module reflects the specific and precise quality frameworks established by the relevant national government agency, and complies fully with the relevant standards framework. Trainee teachers who pass this assignment will be able to continue to progress to module 7SE017 in order to gain Qualfied Teacher Status.

The purpose of this module is to provide a framework that will enable you to build your capacity to teach your specialist subject. The module will support your development as a reflective practitioner with a developing understanding of the ways in which theories of teaching, learning and assessment can inform your practice. You will develop the ability to learn from experience by engaging in learning conversations with university-based and school-based tutors about your experiences, so that together you can agree well-focused targets and action plans for your subject-specific development. This module will draw on subject-specific reading to identify what you consider to be the justification for inclusion of your subject in the school curriculum. You will be aware of the range of pedagogical approaches and strategies available in your specialist subject. Although a significant proportion of the teaching associated with this module is delivered through university-based sessions, an element will take place in an educational context, supported by school-based tutors.
The purpose of this module is to enable you to enhance your specialist skills as a teacher of your subject. You will undertake a critical analysis of one aspect of subject pedagogy, then developing your creativity in planning, teaching and assessment of learning activities associated with this aspect. This will require you to undertake a classroom based investigation into the teaching of your subject and apply theoretical ideas in the classroom, and review evidence of your impact on pupils’ progress within this one aspect of your subject. Although a significant proportion of the teaching associated with this module will be delivered through university-based sessions, the research will be undertaken during your school placement, supported by school-based subject tutors and professional tutors.
