Upon completion of our BA (Hons) Business and Marketing Management degree, students will gain an invaluable understanding of the key principles, strategies, and tools used in modern business and marketing. Furthermore, the course includes practical elements, which gives students hands-on experience in simulated business scenarios as well as direct contact with industry experts.

Our business and marketing course will:

  • provide you with the knowledge of the activities required to manage a business and ensure its longevity.
  • emphasise the role of marketing in underpinning the success of business organisations, while placing this role in the context of other business functions such as finance and human resource management. 
  • help you understand the various types of environment within which a business operates.
  • help you advance your ICT skills through the use of application software and digital technologies

You will also investigate issues such as the types of competition that a business will face from their rivals, being aware of the role of stakeholders in the operation of a business and consider how changes in society may impact on the market for a product.

How is this course taught?

The content of the business management course will be delivered using a wide range of approaches and you will be encouraged to use e-learning forums to interact with staff and other students.

During this course, you will have the opportunity to:

  • advance your ICT skills through the use of application software and digital technologies. 
  • develop your own understanding of collective responsibilities as global citizens within local, nation and international communities through the diversity of topic areas covered.
  • pursue a one-year work placement, either in the UK or internationally.

In addition students who complete this BA (Hons) will have gained sufficient credits to progress on to the CIM Level 7 Chartered Professional Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing.

You will have the opportunity to pursue a one-year work placement in employment, either in the UK or abroad. 

Accredited Chartered Institute of Marketing centre

As an accredited Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) centre, the course has been designed to obtain exemptions from CIM qualifications. On successful completion of the BA (Hons) Business and Marketing Management course students will be able to get exemption from the CIM Professional Certificate in Marketing and subject to fulfilling certain requirements will further be able to get exemption from the CIM Professional Diploma in Marketing and the CIM Professional Diploma in digital marketing. 

Graduates from this course will be able to continue to complete the CIM professional qualifications or study our MSc Digital Marketing Management course. The wide range of relevant skills gained by the end of the course would provide you with opportunities to progress into various business and marketing management positions.

What happens on the course?

BA (Hons) Business and Marketing Management is a 3-year marketing course. Each year comprises of two semesters and every semester contains two 30 credit modules. As we focus on employability, we aim to teach you the marketing skills which marketing employers are looking for in a marketing graduate.

Basics of marketing

You start your marketing course learning the basics of marketing management. Similarly, in all other further modules you will explore key marketing and management theories and their application in order to solve real-time business issues, such as website development and design, search engine marketing (SEM), search engine optimisation (SEO), content marketing, consumer behaviour, green and ethical marketing, data analytics, management and leadership, and finally digital marketing.

Marketing tools

The marketing industry is heavily relying on marketing tools to make internal and external processes seamless. We have embedded some of these key marketing tools into our modules to prepare you for the industry, such as content management systems (CMS), search engine optimisation (SEO) tools, keyword analysis tools, email marketing tools, advertisement tools, social media management tools, marketing research tools, data analytics tools and search engine tools.

Key marketing skills

We are fully aware of marketing trends and expectations of marketing employers. According to the CMO survey and the Chartered Marketing Institute, marketing experts think that website optimisation, digital media and search, direct digital marketing to customers, data analytics, MarTech systems/platforms, online experimentations and/or A/B testing, customer relationship management (CRM) and user experience are some of the key marketing skills.

Networking

We have strong links with the industry and there are many businesses working with us. We also have some consultancy style modules where you get to work with real-time businesses as a marketing student to solve their real-time marketing issues. Moreover, we also invite marketing experts in our modules to talk about key marketing issues in the industry. These modules help you network with marketing experts. This networking brings a lot of opportunities for you in the form of jobs, work placements, and internships.

Online personal branding

In your final year you will develop your own online personal brand with the use of social media platforms. This part of the course helps you identify the industry route you want to take, your strengths and weaknesses, career opportunities, competition in the industry, development of your online presence and finally set your short-term and long-term objectives.

The IoD Student Mentoring Scheme

A fantastic opportunity for our final year marketing students to join a mentoring scheme connected to the IoD (Institute of Directors) to help you get ahead on the career ladder. You will be able to get advice and encouragement from a senior manager, director or chief executive.

WLV Marketing Bootcamp

WLV Marketing Bootcamp is a series of hour-long marketing events. We invite marketing experts from industry and academia to talk about contemporary issues in marketing. We also give opportunities to our marketing students to share their marketing experience and share the stage with experts. We also organise marketing workshops to provide hands on training on different digital marketing tools.

Other Requirements

Students must usually have studied for a minimum of two years post GCSE level. However, we will consider applications from mature students who do not have two years of post-16 study, where they have relevant work experience. Please see http://wlv.ac.uk/mature for further information.
