Leading on Employment-Based Routes leading to Qualified Teacher Status, my job responsibilities include:
- Liaising with schools to set up employment-based initial teacher training programmes.
- Promoting School Direct programmes through regional networks.
- Setting up and maintaining quality assurance of processes and related documentation for internal and external stakeholders.
- Monitoring and quality assuring individual training programmes for employment-based trainees across a range of subjects.
- Delivering Professional Studies and Subject sessions across the School Direct, Teaching Apprenticeship and PGCE programmes.
- Developing and delivering mentor training for Senior Lead Mentors and School Based Mentors in schools across the Partnership.
Links between mentoring and trainee professional development are areas of particular interest to me and have led to my research on how trainee use of emotional intelligence impacts upon individual professional development. Validation projects have includes; three mentoring modules at Masters level, designed to enhance CPD for mentors who support trainees in our Partnership schools, leading to the award of a Post Graduate Certificate in Mentoring in Schools and the Postgraduate Teaching Apprenticeship.
Previous experience includes leading the Economic and Business Studies Department at Secondary level, also leading on Enterrise across the curriculum and working as an examiner and writer for a national examination board for GCSE and Advanced level qualifications.
The link between teacher use of emotional inteligence in the classroom and professional learning and development, has been a focus of research. Research identified aspects of emotional intelligence that enable teachers to ensure that their classroom is conducive to effective learning and support greater professional development of trainee teachers in schools.
More recent PhD research includes investigation into Social and Emotional Lifeskills policies and practice in a range of contrasing schools across our region.
Working with Senior Lead Mentors in schools I have been working on the development of resources to support the delivery of the more recently published Core Content Framework in schools.
