Publishing success for postgraduate literary students

25/06/2018

Two University of Wolverhampton postgraduate students are celebrating their publishing success at a book signing event being held at City Campus.

Kerry Hadley-Pryce, from Stourbridge, and Rob Francis from Wrens Nest in Dudley, are currently studying for PhDs in the University’s School of Humanities at the City Campus in Wolverhampton.

Kerry is studying Creative writing: Psychogeography, Flow and Black Country Writing and Rob is studying Creative Writing: Queering the Black Country.

Kerry has successfully published work previously and her latest novel, Gamble, published by Salt Publishing is a contemporary novel set in and around the Black Country which focuses on a man faced with difficult choices.

Black Light Engine Room Press is publishing Rob’s third poetry chapbook, Corvus’ Burnt-Wing Love Balm and Cure-All – a collection of poems about lust, desire and love. It investigates relationships and power through various narrative viewpoints.

Kerry said: “I can't help but set my writing in the Black Country, it feels innate. I spend a lot of time walking and running next to the canals, and the Black Country as a setting is probably the most important aspect of my writing.”

Rob said: “Being a Postgraduate student at the University of Wolverhampton is a thrill. For the last three years I've been surrounded by tremendous minds that have energised my creative and critical thinking and enabled the necessary discipline and organisation for being a writer.”

Kerry and Rob will be signing copies of their books, reading from their recently published works, talking about writing, reading, the publishing world, PhDs and the Black Country, and taking audience questions at the Harrison Learning Centre in the University’s Ambika Paul Building at City Campus, Wolverhampton, on Friday 29th June between 6.00 pm and 8.00 pm.

Books will be available to buy at the FREE event.
