Mental health

Mental health is not fixed or static. As with our physical health it can vary from time to time, and the two are often linked. Distress is a healthy reaction to some events.

Some students can cause much anxiety to themselves, staff and fellow students, and may want someone to do something to make the problem go away. There is usually no ‘magic wand’ available from any internal support service or external source which can provide instant solutions to what can be difficult, challenging and complex issues.

This is particularly the case when a student is unwilling to seek help and the conditions do not exist to require interventions without his/her consent.

However, sharing your feelings with others and being listened to can help enormously. The documents listed here are provided to help staff help students with mental health issues.
