Welcome to Health Scan
HealthScan is open for scanning with extra precautions and Covid measures in place to help keep you safe during your appointment.
Most of us would like to improve our physical fitness and appearance, or lose weight in order to improve our wellbeing. A HealthScan looks beyond weight and the traditional body mass index (BMI) to determine body fat distribution – an important risk factor in a variety of serious diseases. HealthScan can prove valuable in conditions such as:
• Obesity
• Cystic Fibrosis
• Heart Disease
• Diabetes
• Strokes
• Anorexia Nervosa
• Chronic Renal Failure
Further Information:
Here is an image of our Health Scan in use:
The HealthScan uses an x-ray to provide a high resolution digital image of your full body composition and bone density. The x-ray details fat, lean muscle mass and bone mineral content by region.
The x-ray is performed by a radiographer in our purpose-built facility. The scan itself takes as little as four minutes and requires you to simply lie still on a bed for that time.
If it’s your first visit, your consultation will take an hour in total, so your results can be explained thoroughly to you. Any subsequent progress scans can be completed within half an hour.
Diagnostic Radiographer
Kerry Matthews is our HCPC registered diagnostic radiographer.
External advisors
In addition to support received from organisations such as the National Osteoporosis Society (NOS) HealthScan is also assisted by a Radiation Protection Advisor (RPA), a Medical Physics Expert (MPE), and a Radiography Advisor (RA) who provide guidance regarding health and safety regulations and developments in scanning procedures. The RPA’s role is to advise on compliance with the Ionising Radiations Regulations 1999, while the role of the MPE includes optimisation of patient exposures, image quality and quality assurance.
