Students use their voice to give positive feedback in latest national survey

Students have used their voice to champion their teaching and learning experience at the University of Wolverhampton in the latest National Student Survey (NSS).
Positive feedback has shone a light on a range of student experience, with the University’s results outperforming many other local universities in the region and performing above higher education sector average across a number of categories.
87.38% of students were pleased with the teaching on their course; 85.27% felt that they benefited from learning opportunities whilst 76.44% said they felt listened to and 86.88% were positive about being able to express their ideas, opinions and beliefs.
Managed by the Office for Students (OfS), the NSS is undertaken by final year higher education students across the UK. The survey gives them an opportunity to feedback on their courses and provide their view on a range of topics including teaching, assessment and feedback, support for learning resources, and how they feel they’ve been listened to during their time at university.
Highlights of the survey results for Teaching on My Course included the School of Education achieving a positivity rating of 100% for teaching and Sport & Exercise Science in the School of Sport achieving 99%; Pharmacology and Mental Health Nursing achieved scores of 95%, Business Studies 98% with History scoring 94% and Photography and Architecture 92%.
Professor John Raftery, Interim Vice Chancellor at the University, said: “There is plenty to be happy about in these results which reflect the efforts and hard work of both our staff and students during the past academic year, particularly given the challenging circumstances some students have faced again this year.
“It’s always pleasing to see that we have scored well in key areas which are critical to the student experience. But what’s fundamentally important is that students feel they are being listened to, are positive about being able to express ideas, opinions and beliefs, feel that their wellbeing is being supported, and are happy with teaching on their course as well as the opportunities they are offered through their learning.
“The NSS also gives us a clear agenda of where our renewed focus needs to be moving forward in Student Support, Organisation and Management, and Learning Resources while holding on to the ground gained in Teaching, Learning Opportunities and Assessment and feedback.”
