Public Health lecture - 'The future's bright: the future's public health'

In the future we will be seeing more global upheaval, crop failures, disasters, terrorist threats, and more antibiotic resistance, as well as the epidemics of over consumption: diabetes, obesity, air pollution related deaths. We will need more than ever, our public health system to prevent and protect the public’s health.

In this lecture Professor Middleton will look at some of the epic public health campaigns of the past. What do these stories teach us about the future role of public health? In clinical services we can save lives, one by one; in public health we can save lives in millions.

It’s a great opportunity for young people today to fill the public health roles of the tomorrow.…

Professor John Middleton is Honorary Professor of Public Health at Wolverhampton University. He is President of the Faculty of Public Health, the standard setting body for public health professionals in the UK. He was Director of Public Health for Sandwell in the West Midlands of England for 26 years. He was awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians (London) in September 2015. His main interests are in environmental health and sustainable development, evidence based interventions in social policy, reducing health inequalities and violence prevention.
