Through My Eyes - An Autistic Persons View of the World
In October 2015, the artist was diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome and was relieved when the diagnosis was finally given at the age of 51.
The title “Through My Eyes” refers to the ways in which his brain reacts to external sensory experiences. This creates a feeling where his brain has too much information to deal with and cannot cope with all the external stimuli, causing his non-neurotypical brain to go into a “meltdown”.
These feelings and emotions are externalized via a series of experimental video productions that the artist undertook during his MA practice. The work has developed into a multi-layer experimental video, layering sound and visuals. Creating films that explore the totally immersive aspects of the acuity of sensory overload, the work offers an encounter that provides insight into the day to day experience of the artist.
