A culinary journey through Afghanistan

I discovered my love for Asian cuisine as a child. Today it has a special significance for me and I always try to learn how to cook a lot of dishes myself. Not only is the taste important to me, but also the aesthetics of my dishes. In German, it is therefore said ‘das Auge isst mit’ (‘the eye eats with you’). My roots are from the war-torn country Afghanistan. Here in Wolverhampton, in the presence of many international students, it has become clear to me that truly authentic Afghan cuisine is still quite unknown and the diversity of this cuisine is underestimated. With my project I would like to highlight the special spice palettes and the essential differences of the regional cuisine of Afghanistan to bring people from all around the world closer to the culture and show that there is more about this country than what is shown in the media. I want to give an insight into the culture and how it is reflected by the food and the dishes. Everyone should have the opportunity to try authentic Afghan dishes and perhaps, like me, develop a passion for these beautiful and tasty dishes.
