My project is based on the construction and development of cost effective and portable 3 dimensional background sets for film and animation projects. Traditional film sets can be extremely expensive to make, consume enormous amounts of resources, and are often deconstructed and/or disposed of after use. These approaches to set building are unsustainable. My Masters project will address these issues by designing and developing film and animation sets that are built using minimal, often recycled resources, that can easily be disassembled and repurposed for alternative projects. The sets I make involve the application of a range of handmade craft skills – this approach emphasises the importance of traditional craft in an age of ubiquitous digital design and communications.
