Christopjer Hurrell
MA Digital and Visual Communications
The effect of misinformation that has been deliberately created to deceive and manipulate is the focus for my current work. Society’s interpretations of national and international events have always been used to fuel opinion, but now through untraditional media outlets such as social media, previously unheard voices can now gain international attention. Within the last few years a growing popularity of buzzwords such as ‘Fake News’ have appeared in mainstream media, often being touted by political figures or as a full stop to an unwinnable argument. Developing Zines, 3-dimensional illustrations, photography, filmmaking and a healthy dose of the Dunning-Kruger effect, has been the catalyst for my practical outcomes, that explore the above themes through satire and a sense of irony.
