Threads of Youth Threads of Life

The work is about the transformation of ideas, a metaphor for what’s

happening in life. Something can be in your brain and to not forget it, an

object can be created and the object becomes part of life.

 

This project stems from my culture and inspiration of my life growing up in Nigeria. My mother used to make yarn, hand spinning to decorate an instrument called the Calabash used in the festivals and other community celebration.

This yarn and the making of this, is what has inspired this work, seeing the movement of the thread dangling as a young girl, growing up and being influenced by my mother.

 

The project reflects aspects of object relation and relational aesthetic. Invitations were extended to an individuals in the community, to participate in creating an art piece that includes using donated recycle material, by a way of engaging people to have a conversation.
