‘Czech Your Death’ pendants, 2019
The series of glass pendants ‘Czech Your Death’ is playing with the Memento Mori - Remember that you must die jewellery tradition. Memento Mori pieces were made since 16th century but became very popular during Victorian era. They served as a reminder of the fact that life is precious and nobody knows how long so it is better to use it well.
Coldworked mirrors are engraved with the patterns inspired by traditional Czech folk ornaments used for decorating Easter eggs called ‘Kraslice’. Decorating eggs in spring time is an old pagan tradition in my home country and it signifies the new beginnings and rebirth of the life after long winter.
These pieces were made during my residency at Glass Department at Wolverhampton University.
