Waste awareness events on campus 11 - 15 November 2019

06/11/2019

Since the award of our Domestic Waste Contract in August to Veolia Environmental Services, Facilities – Business Services, Campus Operations, External Relations, Procurement and the Students' Union have been working closely with them to promote the benefits of recycling and waste segregation.

The majority of our waste is either recycled at a Materials Recovery Facility or goes to an Energy Reclamation Facility to generate electricity. In fact last year we recycled enough waste to power 65 homes, plant 370 trees or take 40 cars off the road for a year.

There is a lot of activity happening across the University that you may not be aware of, i.e, dry mixed recycling and specific waste stream such as cardboard, food waste segregation at back of kitchen areas, a digester unit at Telford Innovation Campus and disposable drinks cup recycling in Starbucks' Licenced Store located in the Millennium Building, City Campus.

In order to further promote sustainability across the Universitym we have arranged three waste awareness events with Veolia, taking place between 11am - 2pm as follows:

Monday 11 November - Telford Innovation Campus - Reception area of Angad Paul Building (SA)

Wednesday 13 November - Walsall Campus - Jerome K Jerome Building (WA)

Friday 15 November - City Campus - Foyer – Millennium Building City, MC.

Veolia will also be holding a quiz concerning materials which are acceptable for recycling at our sites.

Answer sheets will be collected across the three days with the winner being drawn on Friday 15 November.

Please come along and speak with Veolia to learn more about our recycling activities.
