Are you registered to vote?

13/11/2019

The 2019 UK General Election will be held on Thursday 12 December 2019. At the University of Wolverhampton we feel passionately about encouraging democratic engagement and the student voice being represented in elections, which is why we are encouraging electoral registration in new ways.

To vote in a General Election you must:
* be registered to vote
* be 18 or over on the day of the election (‘polling day’)
* be a British, Irish or qualifying Commonwealth citizen
* be resident at an address in the UK (or a British citizen living abroad who has been registered to vote in the UK in the last 15 years)
* not be legally excluded from voting.

Many students across the UK do not know that they can register to vote at both their home and term-time addresses, if they are living away from home for their studies. Registering to vote online is a simple, quick process and you can do it here. Some of you will have registered to vote during your enrolment, as for the first time this year we introduced a link to online voter registration as part of the enrolment task.

If you haven’t registered yet, there is still time for December’s General Election – the deadline is 26 November 2019.
