Celebrating sporting success at the 2025 Sports Awards
The University of Wolverhampton recently hosted its annual awards ceremony to celebrate the sporting success and talent across the University.
The Sports and Activity Awards celebrates the commitment, hard work, dedication and sporting success of individuals and teams throughout the University of Wolverhampton. Based in the Students’ Union Luna Lounge, at the University’s City Campus in Wolverhampton, students and staff from various courses came together to celebrate, cheer and reflect on the fantastic sporting achievements over the past year. Students and staff scooped awards across ten categories including Scholar of the Year, Team of the Year, Sportsperson of the Year, and the coveted Sporting Moment of the Year – recognising an unforgettable moment from the past year that will stay long in the minds of our students.
Natalie Gould, Sport Performance and Development Manager at the University of Wolverhampton, said: "It's been fantastic to celebrate a year of sport and physical activity with students and staff across the University of Wolverhampton. From student volunteers and coaches, competitive teams and social sport, we cover a range of awards to try and encapsulate the talent we have here at the university."
This year’s award winners are:
- Student Coach of the Year - George Harrison
- Captain of the Year - Oluwatosin Osiemhnen
- Sporting Moment of the Year - Jay Owen – Penalties
- WLV Sport Staff Outstanding Contribution - Richard Wood
- Club of the Year - Touch Rugby
- Coach of the Year - Kai Beckford
- Most Improved Team of the Year - Men's Football 1st
- Sport Scholar of the Year - Caitlin Leigh
- Team of the Year - Men's Football 1st
- Social Sport Activator - Hassaan Sohail
- Coaches player - Amad Hussein
- Rising Star - Rapheal Peters
Lauren Bowman, Sport Development Assistant at the University of Wolverhampton, said: '"We celebrated not only the victories but the countless hours of training and hard work that has been put in this year. It was especially rewarding to see how excited the students were to be there - sharing the recognition of their effort and embracing the sense of accomplishment alongside their peers."
