International students "rock" Llandudno

Around 100 Faculty of Science and Engineering (FSE) students from across the world experienced the British seaside for the first time as a year-long calendar of events culminated in a coach trip to Llandudno.
Students sampled the town’s famed Victorian charm and stunning coastal scenery after putting a trip to the coast as their wish-list number one.
They enjoyed tram rides to the Great Orme, strolls along the famous Llandudno Pier and tucked into fish and chips on the beach, on a gloriously sunny day.
The trip, on Wednesday (June 7), was the final event of the year of a monthly programme of activities known to FSE staff and students as ‘First Wednesday Club’.
FWC was initially established to improve the international student experience in the School of Architecture and the Built Environment (ABE). A series of successful events based at Springfield Campus saw the initiative expand to include all schools in FSE.
Monthly events have included quiz nights with prizes, pizza and social mixer parties, badminton challenges, Easter Egg giveaways, and a Coronation-themed afternoon tea to celebrate the King’s ascent to the throne.
Dr Paul Hampton, Head of the School of Architecture and the Built Environment (ABE) said: “We’re really pleased at how successful this programme of events has been and how popular it has proved with our students. We pride ourselves on listening to our students and doing all we can to enhance their time with us. Many of our international students had not ventured outside of Wolverhampton, and when a trip to the coast was proposed, it was met with an overwhelming response."
Paul goes on to say: "We’ve had amazing comments in our post-trip feedback, with many students saying Llandudno was the highlight of their year, and we look forward to making next year’s calendar of events even bigger and better.”
Student feedback on this year’s FWC programme included praise for staff for organising a wide variety of events that enabled them to forge friendships, experience new places and enjoy themselves in a safe and supportive environment.
