FABSS Voice magazine: Students with a voice
The first edition of a digital magazine produced for students, by students is out now.
FABBS Voice is an independent and unique space where you can read, see and hear the voices of the University of Wolverhampton students studying within the Faculty of Arts, Business, and Social Sciences (FABSS).
The magazine has been produced by a team of students who formed an editorial team at the start of Semester 2. Foundation Level to PhD students have contributed to the first edition, with wide-ranging content including an in-depth report on the impact of strike action at the University; highlights of student talent; tips for surviving uni; and the investigation into the disproportionate number of Black women in the criminal justice system.
Georgia Pearce, a Level 4 History student, is FABSS Voice's editor. She said: "Working together on this magazine has allowed us to escape reality - strikes, pressures with assignments and just general life. It's also taught us important skills and has certainly given us more confidence with our work."
Some content was created within drop-in Learning Labs sessions, where students have the opportunity to take part in activities outside their degree subjects as well as receive academic skills support.
Lynn Butler, Student Transition Teacher (STT) for Humanities, said:" FABSS Voice and the Learning Labs have provided a creative outlet for students.
"There was a lot of enthusiasm for a magazine, something students felt the University really needed to give them a greater sense of belonging. The weekly Learning Labs space gave students the opportunity to really run with the magazine idea, to work together and to showcase their talents and passions."
Lynn added: "The students have done an incredible job and we hope this will be the first of many editions of FABSS Voice."
