ITV News features Wolverhampton Journalism students

Student Journalists at the University have had a starring role in an ITV News report on attitudes towards women in TV sports coverage.

An ITV crew visited undergraduate Journalism students in the newsroom on City Campus recently.

Aspiring sports journalists Malaika Khan, Jess Potts and Holly Fawdrey were interviewed about their views on female representation in sports media.

Journalism lecturer Lynn Grainger was also interviewed and told the ITV video journalist that many women are no longer simply waiting to be asked; they are using platforms like YouTube to forge their own sports journalism brand.

As well as interviewing students and staff, the crew also filmed students in action on the studio floor and in the galley, as they produced and presented a sports bulletin.

Course Leader for Journalism, Gareth Owen said; "This was a fabulous opportunity to show off our studio and our talented students to a mass TV audience, just as UCAS forms are being submitted!

"We were only on screen for a couple of minutes, but hopefully it will have left potential applicants and their families in no doubt as the quality of our facilities and our course."

The report, will also feature former England and Birmingham City star Karen Carney. ITV News Central airs every weeknight at 6pm in the West Midlands.
