Arena Theatre introduces captioned matinee National Theatre Live screenings

The Arena Theatre, is delighted to announce the launch of accessible matinee screenings of National Theatre Live performances. These performances will feature captions to enhance the experience for d/Deaf and hearing-impaired audiences.

National Theatre Live brings the best of British theatre to screens and cinemas worldwide, and now, thanks to the Arena Theatre’s commitment to accessibility, University staff, students, and local audiences will have the opportunity to experience these productions with captions at 2pm matinee showings. The introduction of these screenings aligns with the venue’s ongoing mission to make live and recorded performances more inclusive to all.

Neil Reading, Artistic Director of the Arena Theatre, said “We are thrilled to be offering captioned and matinee performances of National Theatre Live productions. Theatre should be for everyone, and by providing these screenings we are ensuring that deaf and hearing-impaired audiences can engage in these screenings without barriers, and – additionally – University staff and students can also come along for just £12 per ticket at a convenient showtime”.

Following a captioned screening of The Importance of Being Earnest on Wednesday afternoon, the theatre’s next screening of Stanley Kubrick’s comedy, Dr. Strangelove, will take place on Wednesday 2 April at 2pm and 7.30pm.
