University tops Spring 2025 IIS Accreditation Survey

The University of Wolverhampton has been named the top-performing institution in the Spring 2025 Institutional Insight Survey (IIS), achieving the highest overall accreditation score among 25 participating members, including 17 universities and 8 private Purpose-Built Student Accommodation (PBSA) providers.

Wolverhampton’s accreditation score rose from 8.29 in 2024 to an impressive 8.63 in 2025, placing it firmly at the top of the table - outperforming 10 Russell Group universities in the process.

The Institutional Insight Survey (IIS) is a sector-wide benchmarking tool used to evaluate performance across higher education institutions and accommodation providers. The University of Wolverhampton delivered exceptional results, achieving Gold ratings across all four pillars: Meeting My Expectations, Personalising My Experience, Delighting Me, and Protecting Me. This comprehensive success reflects the University's commitment to delivering a high-quality, student-centred experience.

Outstanding Performance Across Key Metrics

Wolverhampton ranked first in five out of six Net Promoter Score (NPS) categories:

  • Recommend to a Friend: +51.4 (University average: +33.3)
  • Value for Money: +41.3 (University average: +7.4)
  • Academic Outcomes: +44.0 (University average: +11.7)
  • Community: +33.6 (University average: +11.1)
  • Systems: +45.6 (University average: +17.3)

These results reflect a well-rounded approach to supporting students both inside and outside the classroom.

Accommodation Excellence

Accommodation teams played a key role in the University's success, with scores of 8.36 from students, 9.24 from staff, and 9.43 from senior management. Wolverhampton City Campus scored 8.42, Telford 8.47, and Walsall 8.12. Rebooking rates were also high, with 88% of Wolverhampton City students, 82% of Telford students, and 66% of Walsall students planning to stay again.

Student feedback praised staff for their friendliness, responsiveness, and the peaceful, safe environment that supports mental well-being. The University also received Gold ratings across all four IIS pillars, with notable improvements in Delighting Me and Protecting Me, the latter placing Wolverhampton in the top five for mental health support.

Opportunities for Growth

While Wolverhampton excelled in most areas, the Events category - scoring +8.9 and ranking 12th - was identified as an area for improvement. Students expressed a desire for more frequent and varied events, especially those beyond sports, suggesting a need for more inclusive social spaces and activities.
