Test your waste awareness this April and help us reach our sustainability goals

Waste Awareness events are taking place on campus Thursday 27 April at Telford and Walsall Campuses and Friday 28 April at City Campus.
Help the University to recycle waste effectively and contribute to a greener and cleaner community.
Last year, we recycled 30% of all waste generated across the University - which equates to 180 tonnes. We saved 131,000kg of Co2e, which is equivalent to 452.34 trees planted, 48.95 cars off-road, or 79.59 houses powered. Great going, but we want to improve on achievement in 2023 and we need your help!
Don't mix up your mixed recycling
One of the biggest challenges the University faces with our waste management is ensuring we collect the correct materials in our mixed recycling bins.
All of our internal and external bins are clearly labelled to show you what items can go into the recycling bins:
- tins/cans
- plastic bottles
- paper
- cardboard
We need your help keeping contamination at bay, by only putting the above materials into the mixed recycling bins. It may seem small, but getting recycling right makes a big difference to our waste management and helps us in our sustainability efforts.
Waste Awareness events
The University's waste management partner, Veolia, will be on campus running Waste Awareness events on 27 and 28 April to discuss what we can all do to reduce our carbon footprint and dispose of waste more sustainably.
Test your knowledge by visiting the Veolia stand on campus and take part in our quiz for a chance to win a prize:
- Telford Campus - Thursday 27 April, 10.00 am -11.30 am, The Angad Paul Building (SA)
- Walsall Campus - Thursday 27 April, 12.30 am - 14.30 pm, The Jerome K Jerome Building (WA) Refectory
