Police Interpreting CPD
This online 4-week Canvas course is brought to you by the University of Wolverhampton and is designed to provide an introduction to interpreting in the Police domain for British Sign Language/English Interpreters.
The course information is provided by senior lecturers from both the interpreting and policing subjects with experience in this domain and includes:
- What happens at a Police Station and why might an interpreter be needed?
- Interpreting the Police caution
- Police Interviews, types of interviews and questioning techniques
- Simulated, interpreted, victim and suspect interviews
- Model interpretations for you to compare with your own work
- Experiences of a deaf interpreter in the Police setting
Each weekly module contains at least 2-hours of worth of activity for you to complete, including a variety of pre-recorded video lectures, journal articles, interpretation tasks, discussion forums, online quizzes and glossary building tasks.
The course, upon full completion of the activities, is worth 8 structured CPD points.
