Be the one person that makes a big difference in your career and social life with anyone who come across you!

It was a one-year part time programme which was conducted only in the weekend. During that time, a lot of good connections were made and enjoyed doing presentation and information sharing in the different modules the programme had to complete. I benefited and enjoyed the lectures and viewpoints from a western side of things and could compare how the east does business with its different viewpoints to make sense how each other work for and against each other at times.
It was by accident as I am able to speak some other languages besides English, such as Mandarin and a bit of Japanese. Therefore, I would be able to target a wider clientele with the products and services offered from the company. However, beside these abilities, the Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Wolverhampton, made it easier for me to enter the financial industry, as it has concreted my knowledge and experiences in the industry for 18 years now. I learnt from the course to make sense of what I already knew and what I had to learn to be able to analyse the situation and company issues to resolve them. Networking was also another key way it has assisted me in my business development role. So for that I really appreciate the qualification from the University of Wolverhampton which has helped me to get ahead in my career and kept me volatile to new changes.
I have moved to Auckland, New Zealand and am working for an investment and finance company. I have three hats to carry out in my current role: I am a business development manager, compliance, and health and safety officer. Most of my time is networking with mortgage and business brokers in Auckland to introduce them to the company offering of the lending criteria and eligibility. As for the compliance role, I would need to ensure all procedures and documentations are followed and produced. This is to carry out due diligence in compliance to the Anti Money Laundering and Combating the Financing of Terrorism legislation. Finally, in my safety officer position, ensuring the workplace is safe and employees are aware of their responsibility in ensuring no hazard or immediate danger left unreported.
Meeting and making connections with different people in the industry.
Be willing to learn new skills other than your speciality and see how eventually to connect both skills to bring to the job. Nothing is a waste of time as everything learnt will be used later if not sooner. The financial industry needs creative people and gone are the days when one only does one’s comfort zone role or work to be regarded as best in one's profession.
