During his time at the University of Wolverhampton Andrew has been deployed in a number of roles. His responsibilities have included the following:
- Co-ordination of the Primary Learning Network, a networked learning community of 12 primary schools working collaboratively on ICT and pedagogical related issue
- The role of Leading Teacher on the Sandwell LA, “Teacher of the Future” Project
- Learning Technologies Advisory Teacher to schools throughout the Black Country and wider region
- Manager of the Black Country Challenge Primary Teaching and Learning Team
- Project manager for national and international educational research projects
- Senior Lecturer in Education with responsibility for teaching on post graduate and undergraduate routes into primary teaching
- Cluster leader for Primary Mathematics within the Institute of Education -leading the development of specialist mathematics routes in primary ITT at the University of Wolverhampton.

Prior to working at the University of Wolverhampton, Andrew developed his leadership, teaching and subject management skills whilst teaching in schools in Solihull and Shropshire LEAs for a total of thirteen years. He co-ordinated a range of core and foundation subjects, including ICT, Mathematics, Science, Design Technology, Humanities and PE, as well as taking a lead role in a variety of areas including Assessment and Record Keeping, Performance Management, mentoring of staff, Health and Safety and the Schools for Health initiative. He gained senior management experience in a number of his posts and has taken part in a wide range of high profile educational initiatives.
A further ten years of University led work has focused on school improvement, the development of Teaching and Learning, using ICT effectively and maximising outcomes in Mathematics. Andrew has great experience in bringing about positive change within schools and for individual teachers. He has wide experience in mentoring teachers and trainees, leading CPD sessions, staff meetings and professional development days where, by working collaboratively with colleagues, he has helped raise overall standards in the teaching and learning. Andrew believes in a supportive, sensitive and individual approach to teacher training and development. Since 2011, Andrew has taught across the full range of primary initial teacher training programmes, leading the PGCE and School Direct Tuition PGCE between 2015 and 2020.
Andrew has led workshops and spoken at many high profile events in the United Kingdom and abroad. These include presentations at the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority, National College for School Leadership, the BETT Show, the ITIE Promethean International Symposium and the MLearn Conference. He also contributed to the Primary Strategy Support materials as well as a range of other written and media publications.
In 2017, Andrew was proud to be in receipt of the Vice Chancellor’s Award for Outstanding Student Support. In 2018 Andrew was nominated for the student support awards by the Student Union. He received a further nomination for the Vice Chancellor’s Awards for Staff Excellence for Innovation in Student Engagement later in the year and again in 2020.
In May 2018, Andrew was confirmed as Chair of the Strategic group for the North Midlands and Peaks Maths Hub and acts as a Black Country Ambassador for this body. As of 2018, Andrew is heavily involved with the recruitment to and delivery of NPQ programmes at the University of Wolverhampton.
As of 2020, Andrew leads all aspects of primary mathematics provision across primary ITT, developing course content, materials and pedagogical approaches. In June 2019 Andrew took part in a fact finding mission to three areas of China in order to examine the teaching of mathematics in an international setting.
