During a successful career as a primary teacher, Andrew developed teaching, leadership and subject management skills to a high degree of competency. Thirteen years in the classroom provided the foundation required to progress into senior education coaching and advisory roles. Andrew co-ordinated a range of subjects, including ICT, DT, Geography, Art, Science and Mathematics, as well as taking a lead role in a variety of areas including Assessment and Record Keeping and the Healthy Schools agenda. He developed an interest in classroom technology and it was this that led him to work for the Midlands Leadership Centre, UoW, led by Prof. Sir Geoff Hampton. Work centred on school improvement, using classroom ICT and maximising outcomes in primary mathematics. This work involved teaching across a range of schools for a further six years.

Key roles during his early time at the University of Wolverhampton included:

·       Co-ordination of an ICT networked learning community of 12 schools

·       Lead Teacher on the Sandwell LA, “Teacher of the Future -  Maths” Project

·       Advisory Teacher  –face to face training on a wide range of topics and technology

·       Manager - Black Country Challenge Primary T&L Team – school improvement

·       Research Project Manager – e.g. The REVEAL Project, a national study looking at the use of Response Technology.

·       Technology related training and consultancy for educational technology companies such as Promethean, Fantastict, Smart, Lighthouse, Purplemash and Espresso.

 Since 2011, Andrew has taught across the full range of primary initial teacher training programmes, leading the PGCE and School Direct Tuition PGCE between 2015 and 2020.

Andrew has led workshops and spoken at many high-profile events in the United Kingdom and abroad. These include presentations at the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority, National College for School Leadership, the BETT Show, the ITIE Promethean International Symposium and the MLearn Conference. He also contributed to the Primary Strategy Support materials as well as a range of other written and media publications.

In 2017, Andrew was proud to be in receipt of the Vice Chancellor’s Award for Outstanding Student Support. In 2018 Andrew was nominated for the student support awards by the Student Union. He received a further nomination for the Vice Chancellor’s Awards for Staff Excellence for Innovation in Student Engagement later in the year and again in 2020.

In May 2018, Andrew was confirmed as Chair of the Strategic group for the North Midlands Maths Hub and acts as a Black Country Ambassador for this body. In 2018, Andrew was heavily involved with the recruitment to and delivery of NPQ programmes at the University of Wolverhampton. 

As of 2025, Andrew leads all aspects of primary mathematics provision across primary ITT, developing course content,  materials and pedagogical approaches. In June 2019 Andrew took part in a fact-finding mission to three areas of China in order to examine the teaching of mathematics in an international setting. Andrew is currently delivering nationally accredited programmes for teachers of primary mathematics the NCETM via the North Mids Maths hub that focus on developing mastery models of teaching in local schools. Andrew currently acts as a local leader for mathematics (LLME) as part of his contracted work with the North Mids. Maths hub.

Andrew worked as a primary teacher in three successful schools and gained senior leadership experience. Andrew then worked as an advisor and school improvement teacher for several years, working and teaching in schools across the Black Country. Andrew project managed research projects for industry partner clients and worked for several years in teacher CPD and school innovation. 

As a senior lecturer in HE, Andrew has worked with colleagues from across the sector on numerous ITT related projects. He has lead developments in primary mathematics for well over 10 years. His roles have included module and course leadership and acting as "champion" in areas as diverse as employability, fundamental skills in English and maths, teacher CPD, marketing and enterprise catalyst.
