University named as new CASES Outreach Hub

The University of Wolverhampton is proud to announce its official selection as one of the new Outreach Hubs for the Chartered Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences (CASES). This prestigious recognition places the University at the forefront of a national initiative to make sport and exercise science more accessible and inspiring for young people and the wider public.

As a CASES Outreach Hub, the University will play a key role in engaging school students, educators, and communities with cutting-edge research, innovative science, and the transformative potential of higher education. The initiative aligns closely with the University of Wolverhampton 2035 Strategy, which champions meaningful partnerships, educational opportunity, and impactful regional and national engagement.

“We’re thrilled to be part of this growing network,” said Dr. Ross Cloak, Associate Professor of Sport and Exercise Science. “This opportunity allows us to inspire the next generation of scientists and educators by bringing our research and expertise directly into schools and communities.”

The CASES Outreach Hubs are a national initiative designed to engage pupils aged 14–19 who are studying sport and exercise science-related subjects. Hosted by universities across the UK, these hubs deliver a wide range of outreach activities including workshops, public talks, school visits, and webinars.

Each year, students participating in these activities are invited to take part in a national poster competition, where they showcase their learning and creativity. Winning entries are recognised nationally and may even receive visits from elite athletes, further inspiring their academic and career aspirations.

As of July 2025, there are 35 Outreach Hubs across the UK, collectively engaging over 100 schools and colleges. The University of Wolverhampton is proud to join this impactful network, helping to promote scientific literacy and widen participation in sport and exercise science. This builds on a long history of working with CASES, having previously hosted the National Conference, chaired by Professor Andy Lane, a Fellow of CASES, who is working with Dr Cloak on the Outreach-hub.
