Official agreement engineers greater international partnership working

The University of Wolverhampton welcomed visitors from Pharos University in Alexandria (PUA), Egypt, recently for the official signing of a partnership agreement between the two institutions. 

The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) partnership outlines opportunities for collaboration across a number of disciplines for research, the potential for student exchange programmes and the development of Transnational Education (TNE) courses between the Faculty of Engineering at PUA and the Faculty of Science and Engineering at the University of Wolverhampton. 

Following the official signing which took place at the University’s City Campus in the presence of Professor John Raftery, Vice Chancellor of the University of Wolverhampton and Professor Mohamed Abouali, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at PUA, the visitors were given a warm welcome by University of Wolverhampton academics and staff and online by members of the British Council. 

The five-day visit included a trip to Telford Innovation Campus to view the engineering facilities and a tour of the University’s £120 million Springfield Campus which included the laboratories and teaching rooms at the award-winning School of Architecture and Built Environment. 

Dr Michael Gerges, Associate Dean for Recruitment and International Relations at the University of Wolverhampton, said: “We are very excited and pleased to announce this new partnership which marks a significant step forward in our global commitment to providing the students at both universities with access to world-class education and research opportunities. This partnership will strengthen our University’s reputation as a leader in education and research, while fostering international collaborations which will benefit both institutions. 

“I would like to thank all colleagues at Pharos University in Alexandria and the University of Wolverhampton for their invaluable contributions in making this partnership a reality.”  

Professor Mohamed Abouali, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Pharos University in Alexandria, Egypt, said: “We are glad to start this new partnership with such a prestigious institution, the University of Wolverhampton. Our cooperation will be extending across a range of disciplines to include joint programs, research activities and staff and student exchanges among others.  

“This partnership comes in accordance with the internationalisation strategy of Pharos University in Alexandria (PUA), Egypt, to provide its students with an international quality of education to have highly qualified graduates that can compete in the local and international jobs market. 

“We would like to thank both teams from the University of Wolverhampton and PUA for their tremendous efforts and hard work that made this partnership happens. Our extreme gratitude goes also to the management of the Faculty of Science and Engineering for their great support and for their hospitality.”
