University partners with equipment supplier to create world class facility
The University's new Health & Performance Suite is a state-of-the-art facility with the latest equipment and technologies, designed for rehabilitation, strength training and conditioning.
The University of Wolverhampton set out to establish a world-class multipurpose facility at their Walsall Campus — a Health and Performance Suite designed for teaching, training, rehabilitation, and research. Aimed at enhancing the student experience and supporting community engagement, this facility required versatile strength equipment to cater to elite athletes, specific populations, and various academic programs.
The University envisioned a cutting-edge environment that could accommodate a diverse user base, including students studying strength and conditioning, sports science, sports therapy, and physiotherapy. The facility needed to support academic and research goals while fostering community engagement through exercise and training initiatives. The challenge was to create a space that maximized functionality, adaptability, and efficiency while incorporating advanced technologies to enrich the user experience.
Mark Niemz, Senior Lecturer in Strength & Conditioning, said: “Investing in the Health and Performance Suite is crucial for the University of Wolverhampton to remain competitive in the university sports landscape. State-of-the-art facilities attract prospective students interested in sports-related programs and talented athletes seeking top-tier training environments, which is why we selected Eleiko as our equipment partner. Their reputation for innovation and exceptional quality in strength training equipment underscores our commitment to providing exceptional educational and athletic experiences for our strength training community.”
The new Health and Performance Suite features cutting-edge equipment such as Eleiko Prestera and technologies like Eleiko’s ENODE barbell sensors. Significantly enhancing the University's teaching and training facilities, the space-efficient design allows large user groups to train simultaneously, optimizing the facility’s configuration to meet diverse needs. Integrated technologies support academic programs and research in sports and health-related fields, enhancing both learning and training processes. The facility will also support high-performing athletes through partnerships with National Governing Bodies like British Judo and the Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme.
Eleiko’s partnership with the University from concept to completion exemplifies a commitment to delivering bespoke strength solutions and ongoing support. The result is a world-class facility that not only meets but exceeds the expectations of UoW’s staff, students, and community, reinforcing the university’s position as a leader in sports education and training.
