This is Demolition, 29.06.2018

This is Demolition took place at the Springfield ECMS. The event welcomed over 60 attendees from both regional and national demolition companies, as well as representatives from related industries such as construction.

Key objectives of the event were for EnTRESS to engage with the demolition industry outlining their services in laser scanning and the built environment, as well as wider industry promotion of the MSc in Demolition Management, a course developed by the University of Wolverhampton in collaboration with the Institute of Demolition Engineers (IDE).

Opening remarks came from Jackie Dunne and Prof Mohammed Arif who outlined the ambitions of the University of Wolverhampton and how the Springfield Campus will offer education pathways for built environment professionals for years to come. David Darsey from the IDE detailed the work undertaken to launch the unique higher education courses for the demolition industry. C&D Consultancy gave an insight into the demolition sector and the innovations within the industry.

Closing the first session were Dr Paul Hampton and representatives from AR Demolition who focused on the content of the MSc course and their experiences of the course as members of the first cohort to graduate from the course.

Andrew Crawford and Chris Holland from The Coleman Group opened the second session providing a technical overview of Springfield Brewery project as a case study of a live demolition project. Debbie Ward from Clugston Construction explained the principles of the circular economy, and how these are being implemented within the construction industry.

The event was closed by short talks from EnTRESS, BRIC and BECCI highlighting the business support opportunities on offer at the University of Wolverhampton.

These talks brought to the forefront the opportunities and challenges within the demolition sector, as well as how business and higher education are working together to deliver the required higher education solutions. In addition to these insightful talks, we witnessed productive commercial discussions between delegates, exhibitors and speakers.
