Michael Cumming
Film & TV Director
Michael is an award-winning film and television director best known for his work on the revolutionary satirical series Brass Eye, the BAFTA winning sitcom Toast of London & follow-up Toast of Tinseltown and most recently, received critical acclaim for his feature film documentary King Rocker.
He is a graduate of the Wolverhampton Polytechnic, completing a degree in Fine Art in 1985 which led to his eventual career as a filmmaker. He returned to the University in 2017 when he was awarded an honorary doctorate for his services to the arts and media.
He remains a keen and devoted graduate, highly engaged with the University and has held numerous events here for students, staff and alumni.
This alumnus was at the forefront of the comedy revolution in 1990s Britain. He has remained firmly with his finger on the pulse of culture throughout his career and his many accolades and awards are a testament to his mastery of storytelling across four decades.
