Mark Niemz is a lecturer in Strength and Conditioning within the university’s Institute of Sport. In addition to his academic role, Mark provides Strength and Conditioning support to the university’s athletes and sports scholars. He has worked as a practitioner in the physical preparation of athletes within a number of settings, including working with world class high performance sports programmes as an S&C Coach with the English Institute of Sport, and working with talented student-athletes in school and university environments. Mark is an accredited coach and member of the UK Strength and Conditioning Association, and continues to practice as an S&C coach and consultant alongside his role as lecturer at the University of Wolverhampton.

Mark’s experience of delivering S&C services to elite athletes has included working with several Olympic sporting programmes within the UK high performance system, including GB Triathlon, GB canoeing, GB Water Polo and British cycling. Currently he delivers S&C support to athletes from a range of sports, including triathlon, golf, rugby, football, boxing and athletics.

As a lecturer within the Institute of Sport, Mark’s key responsibilities include teaching, supporting and assessing students across modules relating to sports science, coaching practice and strength & conditioning principles. This includes supporting undergraduate students in developing their understanding of scientific and applied principles relating to the physical preparation of athletes and sports people, developing competency in applied coaching practices and training methods and undertaking research in areas relating to S&C.

 

As an S&C practitioner within the university, Mark is responsible for providing support to student athletes with a view to enhancing their athletic potential and improving sports performance.
