    Adoption and diffusion of innovations

Dr Gurmak Singh is responsible for the academic operations for international and UK collaborations within the Faculty of Social Sciences. The faculty works with international partners in Asia, Europe, Middle East and Africa. His role includes coordinating the delivery of international and UK provision, supporting the Faculty strategic planning process in this area and managing the budget for these collaborative activities. 

‌After gaining his BSc in Computer Science from University of Swansea, Gurmak Singh started his career working with an IT company in London writing software for business applications (travel and insurance). 

He was offered a teaching role at London College of Printing and this led him towards a career in teaching. He completed a teaching certificate, Diploma in Management, Masters in research and a Doctorate in adoption of eLearning in higher education.

He has taken various roles at the University of Wolverhampton including; Head of Quality, Subject Leader and Head of Department.

Dr Gurmak Singh has published and presented research papers in adoption and diffusion of eLearning in internationally recognised journals and conferences.

His research is situated in the field of HE and innovation management and examines the interaction between human agency and structure. The focus of his research is on the role of strategy, organisational infrastructures, boundary behaviours, locus of control of resources, homogenous and heterogeneous communication channels, social networks and role of management in adoption and diffusion of innovations.

The implications of his research are significant for university executives, managers and academic teaching staff. Dr Singh has also examined the role of IT in different business sectors including telemedicine, and law and accountancy.

His current research project examines the institutional and academic practices that enable or hinder the experiences of international students. The project draws on acculturation models that explain and aid the process of change in higher education.
