Learners say hola to new resources

16/06/2010

The materials are aimed at supporting secondary, post-16 and adult education learners to develop basic language skills and raise awareness of cultural understanding.

Language Networks for Excellence, based at Wolverhampton Science Park, has developed student activity books and teacher support material for the ABC Awards Entry 3 Certificate in Practical Spanish.

The new resources will be launched at the ABC Awards offices in Nottingham on Monday, 28 June 2010 with a Spanish themed lunch from 12.15pm. University experts will be on hand to talk about the materials, which will also be available to order on the day, as well as experts from ABC Awards who will be available to discuss the qualification structure.

There will also be training sessions about the qualifications offered in a range of languages.

Emilia Quaranta, Language Networks for Excellence, said: “After Mandarin Chinese, Spanish has the most native speakers in the world and it is estimated that around 500 million people speak some form of the language worldwide. It is becoming increasingly important that as a country we have more Spanish speakers.

“We are therefore delighted to be launching these new teaching resources for practical Spanish, which have been specifically developed to support pupils working towards an ABC Awards Entry 3 Certificate.”

The resources support the teaching and learning of all six units in the qualification: speaking, listening, dialogue, reading, writing, reading and written responses.

The Practical Spanish resources build on the success of other materials developed by Language Networks for Excellence to support languages education, including resources for Mandarin Chinese.

Anyone interested in attending the launch event can contact Language Networks for Excellence at networks4excellence@wlv.ac.uk or call 01902 518909 for more details.
