The Good Shepard podcast: "Art plays such an amazing role"

Hear of one of our accomplished Master's illustration students, Charlotte Webb, as she guests in an episode of the Good Sheppard podcast focusing on the transformative role that art can play in recovery and mental health.

The Good Sheppard Wolverhampton is a charitable organisation that provides crisis support including food, practical support, interventions to relieve homelessness, and supports the recovery from mental health and addiction.

Charlotte, who is a free-lance mural artist and illustrator, has been supporting a project facilitated by the Good Sheppard, offering a series of workshops at the Newhampton Arts Centre.

Charlotte said: "I recently graduated from the University of Wolverhampton with a degree in illustration and I just wanted to give something back to the community."

"It was an honour to open the programme, having been in recovery myself. For me, these workshops are all about exploring our inner selves, our personal identity. It's easy to doodle in sketchbooks or create work that we think is beautiful, but the idea here was to actually look deeper within."

"As an illustrator, my own practice is all about narrative, so it's telling stories, so I felt it was really appropriate that people look to their own stories or their own futures."

Listen to the podcast to find out more about Charlotte's role within the project and hear the story of her own recovery journey.
