Supporting our community

As the numbers of NHS and frontline workers contracting COVID-19 continues to rise and reports of shortages of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) continue to hit the headlines, the University of Wolverhampton is aiding our community by manufacturing PPE to keep health professionals safe.

We're asking for your financial help to ensure these lifesaving projects continue. These are difficult times for everyone, if you are able to make a donation of any size you will be directly contributing to the fight against this virus.

How your donation will make a difference

Faculty of Science and Engineering staff based at the Telford Innovation Campus have been using 3D printers to make face shields for nurses, paramedics, care homes and other frontline care-workers across the region.

Face shields should be used by frontline staff working with patients who have the COVID-19 virus, or those most vulnerable to it, but the shortage of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) has been widely reported on both a local and national scale.

Almost 500 face shields have already been manufactured, if you're able to make a donation, we can produce thousands more.

Production has begun on hand and surface sanitiser for our NHS Trusts and local authorities, helping to combat short supplies of the anti-viral gel. Sanitiser is particularly important for mobile frontline staff, such as paramedics and community nurses, who may not have easy access to soap and running water.

Staff from the School of Pharmacy have already made over 100 litres of sanitiser, but your donation can help us make even more.

To help the University of Wolverhampton continue to produce vital PPE and sanitiser, please consider a donation of any size to our COVID-19 appeal.

  • A donation of £10 will help to produce 3 litres of sanitiser
  • A donation of £20 will help to manufacture 12 face shields

We’d like to raise £10,000 so that the University can manufacture 3,000 face shields and 1,500 litres of sanitiser.

If we can raise a further £10,000 we can build an injection moulding tool that will help us manufacture 30,000 face shields at a rate of 1,000 per day!

The support of our alumni, honorary graduates and friends at this time is much needed and much appreciated.

The University of Wolverhampton is also supporting the NHS by providing additional staff for the front lines:

  • 352 3rd year Nursing and Midwifery students have already entered the NHS to help deliver front line care. 187 more may be able to join them in the coming weeks.
  • 84 Paramedic students have applied to the West Midlands Ambulance Service to enter active duty as soon as possible.
  • Seven post-graduate Pharmacy students are working in a Pharmacy in Dudley, GP Clinics in Wolverhampton and Birmingham, a Hospital in Shrewsbury and in Pharmacy Clinical Homecare, London.
  • Nine Practitioner staff members have confirmed contracts with the NHS, and 14 more are awaiting a return to duty. Seven Research Professors have been fully deployed to New Cross Hospital in Wolverhampton.
