Merry Christmas and a happy new year!

To round off the first year of the Open Research blog, we thought we’d end with something festive.

If you’re looking to put up your feet with a good book during the break, we have some suggestions for Christmas reads without paywalls.

Available from Project Gutenberg, all are free to access and should spread some seasonal happiness. You can read these books online or download a copy:

A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens

The Gift of the Magi by O. Henry

King Winter (Anonymous)

A Kidnapped Santa Claus by L. Frank Baum

If you’ve already had enough mince pies and would prefer something non-Christmassy, then there are lots of other open access books available to while away the hours before the new year begins. Search the open access collections of the Directory of Open Access Books or these individual publishers:

Bloomsbury

Manchester University Press

White Rose University Press

We’d like to wish all our readers a merry Christmas and a very happy new year. See you in 2024!
