Information About Your Visit

At the Arena Theatre, University of Wolverhampton, we are delighted to be welcoming audience members, staff and visitors to our venue once again. Our mission is to be a safe, welcoming and inclusive space for all: and, more than ever, we are placing the utmost importance on the safety and well-being of our audience members, staff and visitors.

We have introduced a range of health and safety measures that seek to reduce the risk associated with the presence and transmission of COVID-19 that are in line with government advice, local health authority requirements and requirements by the University of Wolverhampton. These include reducing our capacity, two-metre social distancing (one-metre social distancing with face coverings in our main auditorium), the requirement for a negative Lateral Flow Test result 24 hours prior to curtain up, and the use of face coverings throughout the venue by audience members, staff and visitors. These measures are in place for when the theatre re-opens at the earliest opportunity.

If you record a positive COVID-19 test result within 48 hours of your visit to the Arena Theatre, please contact the Box Office immediately on (01902) 321 321 or 

Some of the measures will be clearly visible from the moment you arrive at the venue, and others will require consideration by our visitors to ensure everyone has a safe visit.

We hope these new health and safety measures that we have implemented will give you the utmost reassurance on your return to the Arena Theatre to enjoy one of our performances.

Thank you for your co-operation on these guidelines. The Arena Theatre runs on a staff base of seven people, and therefore if one member of staff contracts COVID-19 the venue will have to consequently close for two weeks. We appreciate you abiding by these guidelines to keep the Arena Theatre safe.

All bookings must be made in advance via our website. When booking on our website, you will be issued with an e-ticket which you can scan when arriving at the theatre. If you require any additional support with regards to acess, please contact our Access and Inclusion manager Kirsty Povey

Below, we have provided information on seating pods and sizes which will be in line with government advice at the time. Remember to book your tickets early to avoid disappointment as our capacity is currently limited.

Please direct all ticket and event enquiries to our e-mail where a member of the Arena Theatre Box Office team will be able to assist you. This inbox is manned from 9am to 5pm on a weekday and weekends when shows are being livestreamed.

You can book with confidence at the Arena Theatre, we are offering free ticket exchange – either to the online stream of your event or another event at the Arena Theatre – or a refund in case of cancellation due to COVID-19.

Seating Pods

To maximise capacity and ensure all audience members can enjoy performances safely, we have implemented socially distanced seating pods throughout the auditorium. Our seating pods are in line with government guidance at the time of your performance. The pods vary in sizes from one person to four people, and pods of seats can only be occupied by people from the same household or support bubble. 

Please only book into a pod that matches your group size. For example, two people would book a pod of two – not a pod of three.

In front of house areas such as our foyer area, we ask audience members to adhere to government policy and not gather in groups.

For school and community groups – for certain performances we will be offering larger seating pods for class-sized bookings. If you wish to make a school or large community group booking to any of our performances, please e-mail

For accessible groups  - We have reserved accessible seating pods on both of our balconies, and also on our front row. Balcony pods will be reserved for customers with access needs in the first instance. If you would like to discuss your seating and pod options, please contact Kirsty Povey


Please ensure your contact details are up to date on our box office system – these are the details we will use to contact you if required.

When you book for an event at the Arena Theatre, you will be sent a booking confirmation which contains an e-ticket. This e-ticket can be scanned directly from your phone with our contactless ticket scanner in our reception areaa – this prevents you having to print your ticket at home, and also means we do not need to handle printed tickets. Please ensure your e-mail address stays up to date so you can receive your e-ticket.

Streaming tickets

When you book for our events that also have a livestream option, you will receive a unique room link code in your booking e-mail. This link will take you to a page where you can watch the performance, but there will be a holding screen in place until one minute before the performance. This room link is unique to your household. You will receive an e-mail from the Arena Theatre one day prior to the online performance with instructions on how to access the online performance if you remain unsure.

We will endeavour to ensure British-Sign Language, captions and audio description are available across our livestream performances. These may, however, be released and available at a later point.


Our bar will remain closed for performances. When booking your ticket, you will be taken to a screen which will enable you to pre-order drinks for both the beginning of the performance and the interval.

When arriving at the Arena Theatre, a member of staff will direct you to the area where you can pick up your refreshments.

Please note: if you do not pre-order your drinks at the time of purchasing your ticket, we will be unable to offer you any refreshments on the evening of the performance.

Flexible ticketing policy

In the unfortunate event that future performances are cancelled, we will offer you one of four options:

  • A refund to the full value of your ticket.
  • A refund to part of the value of your ticket if you wish to make a donation to the Arena Theatre.
  • A voucher which you can use on future performances at the Arena Theatre. This voucher is valid for twelve months.
  • The option to donate the full value of your ticket to the Arena Theatre.

If you are unable to attend a performance due to displaying symptoms of COVID-19, we will offer you the same four options above, and an added extra of: 

  • Swapping your auditorium for a ticket to a livestream of the performance. In this instance, we would offer to refund you the ticket price difference (if applicable) or you could donate this if you prefer. 

If you are unable to attend for any other reason, the same five options outlined above would apply.



Before you arrive

If you are displaying symptoms of COVID-19, we ask that you refrain from attending a performance and let the Box Office team know as soon as possible.

To ensure the safety of all of our audience members, at the time of booking you will be given a specified ten-minute arrival time, this is to reduce large gatherings and maintain social distancing. Please do follow any guidance you have communicated to you prior to a performance, and any guidance our Front of House team give on the evening of the performance.

We expect that any person attending the Arena Theatre for a performance has a negative lateral flow test no more than 24 hours before entering the venue. We also expect customers to wear a face mask when moving around the theatre, including whilst seated in the auditorium.

Before leaving home, please check our website and social media for any updates. We will also send you an e-mail prior to the performance to outline any guidelines and information about the event.

Please only bring one small bag with you if possible. Our Front of House team will be unable to store any personal items from audience members.



When you arrive

The Arena is easily accessible by road. Signs to 'University (South)' will lead you to Wulfruna Street. Limited street parking is available outside, which is free if you are in possession of a blue badge. The nearby Broad Street car park is open 24-hours a day, and is just a three to four minute walk from the theatre. You can pay for parking at Broad Street with change, or with the RingGo app available for most phone devices.

There are three disabled parking bays directly outside the front of the Arena. These parking bays are pay and display, but will be free if you are in possession of a blue badge. Please contact Our Access and Inclusion manager Kirsty if you have any specific parking needs.

For Google Maps and Sat Navs, input the postcode WV1 1SE for the Arena Theatre, and WV1 1JD for Broad Street car park.

If Broad Street is full, Faulkland Street is the next nearest car park to the theatre - again this is payable with either change or the RingGo app. The postcode for Faulkland Street is WV1 1JN

PLEASE NOTE: please check the closing times when parking on the Wolverhampton Civic Centre car park, as this can sometimes shut at 8.00pm before shows at the theatre are finished.

To ensure safety when picking up or dropping off at the Arena we would recommend that all pick-ups take place just to the left of the Arena’s front entrance, directly in front of the Wulfruna building. This area is marked with double yellow lines and can get tight in peak traffic times. Please do not park in this area at any other time.

New signage with key guidance and advice will be in place at the theatre. A member of our Front of House team will be on hand to answer any questions you may have, and also to make sure you have a safe and enjoyable visit.

Face coverings

The Arena will expect all customers to wear a face mask when moving around the theatre, including while seated in the auditorium and throughout any performance. If you have any exemptions of wearing a facemask, you do not have to fill out an exemption card.

Members of the Arena Theatre staff team will wear protective face coverings at all times. 

We expect that any person attending the Arena Theatre for a performance has a negative lateral flow test no more than 24 hours before entering the venue. We also expect customers to wear a face mask when moving around the theatre, including whilst seated in the auditorium.

Social distancing

We are working to ensure all customers feel safe and comfortable in our spaces, which is why we are operating two metre social distancing in our Front of House area and one metre social distancing in our auditorium space. Please only sit in the seat you have been allocated.

Our seating inside the auditorium is managed and socially distanced, and we will not be offering seating pods in groupings larger than four people (except for schools or community groups).

When leaving your seat at the end of a performance, the on-duty Front of House Manager will stagger the emptying of each row, ensuring that social distancing is maintained at all times. We ask that you exit the theatre swiftly, and do not stand in our front of house areas. 

We request that all visitors and audience members respect social distancing guidance, measures and advice at all times.


Auditorium seating is fully deep cleaned in-between performances with a fogging machine.

In the interest of maintaining good hygiene, we politely ask audience members to take their seat in the auditorium as soon as possible upon arrival – outside seating in the foyer area will not be available in order to limit the amount of high touch points.

We have the following hygiene health and safety measures in place: hand sanitisation points and staff wearing face masks. The Box Office window will remain closed on the evening of a performance.

We politely ask for our visitors and audience members to uphold good hygiene standards, this includes regular hand washing and the frequent application of hand sanitiser.

Queuing Systems

We have put into place a time slot system in order to reduce any queuing. Should there be a queue for any reason, a member of staff will ensure social distancing is in place. Should you have any questions regarding social distancing and queuing, please email

If you require someone to guide you to your seat, please ask a member of staff on the day. Our staff are trained in guiding and we will happily assist.
